Beach Ride in Iceland – Horseback Tour for Experienced Riders

Join us as we take you to Iceland’s wild coastal landscapes – black lava beaches, river deltas, grassy plains, and breathtaking views.

We begin the tour in the fishing village of Þorlákshöfn, where we ride out onto the long, black sandy beach along the roaring waves of the Atlantic Ocean. The soft lava sand provides a truly unique riding experience in this dramatic setting. From there, we continue towards the mighty Ölfusá glacial river, where the river meets the sea in a vast, open delta.

We ride through shallow waters along the riverbanks, across wetlands and meadows, heading towards the farming region of Ölfus, where the Vellir farm is located. Along the way, there are great opportunities to enjoy the unique tölt gait on excellent riding trails, surrounded by landscapes that feel far removed from civilization. If weather permits, we may even catch sight of the iconic volcanoes Hekla and Eyjafjallajökull in the distance.

We also pass the Flói Bird Reserve, where it is often possible to see a variety of coastal and wetland bird species. The tour includes a break along the way to enjoy a light lunch in the heart of nature. Depending on the tides, the tour may start in Þorlákshöfn and finish at the farm – or the other way around.

If you require pick-up, it is available from Reykjavík at 08:00 – we recommend being ready no later than 07:45.
You can expect to be back in Reykjavík at approximately 17:30.

Please Note: This tour is only for experienced riders, as we ride at a fast pace. The total riding distance is approximately 23 km, with several stops along the way. Minimum age is 12 years.
