Short Hike and Relaxation in the Icelandic Highlands
Hiking through surreal landscapes in the Icelandic highlands followed by a soak in a geothermal pool captures the very essence of Iceland.
Canyon Baths
The Canyon Baths were built by locals in Húsafell with a strong focus on sustainability and authenticity. Choose between two geothermal pools with temperatures ranging from 30–41°C, each offering spectacular views of the surrounding canyon, mountains, and glaciers.
An Authentic Icelandic Bathing Tradition
The baths were constructed using locally sourced natural materials, such as flagstones from the canyon floor, and designed using traditional methods reminiscent of Snorralaug, a historic site dating back to the 10th century. The adjacent bathhouse is built with reclaimed timber and even the hooks in the changing rooms are made from reused horseshoes from a nearby family farm.
The Journey to the Baths
Led by a knowledgeable English-speaking local guide, the tour begins with a short drive from Húsafell Activity Center to a trailhead deep in the highlands. During this two-hour excursion, guests enjoy a leisurely walk past wonders like the two-tiered Langifoss waterfall, learn about Iceland’s renewable energy, cross a glacier-fed stream, and witness the location of Okjökull – Iceland’s first glacier lost to climate change. The trail may change due to weather conditions such as snow, ice, mud, or water.
The highlight is a relaxing soak in Húsafell Canyon Baths – a surreal geothermal paradise. Enjoy 30 minutes of pure relaxation and fresh Icelandic air before heading back to Hotel Húsafell.
