Whale watcing Holmavík
Our whale watching excursion takes place in the enchanted Westfjords, a distant but stunning and undeveloped region of Iceland. The most athletic species of whales can be found here. Humpback whales are known to be frequently seen in the fjord near Hólmavik in the summer and autumn in particular. Since they are the most playful, and curious of all whales, humpbacks are a favorite species among many whale watchers worldwide.
On this whale watching trip we also often meet minke whales, pilot whales and white-nosed dolphins. During autumn, the fjord is often filled with larger humpback whales, and at times up to 20 whales have been seen in the fjord at the same time! We generally see this most often in the spectacular morning hours in autumn. Once in a while, visitors have also been lucky enough to see Blue Whales, Orcas, Northern Bottlenose Whales and the very rare Sperm Whales and Fin Whales.
