An ATV tour through Iceland’s volcanic wilderness
We start at the old harbor in Grindavík – today a protected recreational area with dramatic shipwrecks and ruins over 100 years old. From here, we head through rocky mountain trails toward Mt. Thorbjörn, a dormant volcano towering over the Blue Lagoon.
Our next stop is Eldvörp, an area with over a hundred volcanic craters. Here, you'll feel like you're in Mordor from Lord of the Rings. We'll take a short walk to one of the craters where steam as hot as 280°C rises from the ground – a hidden natural phenomenon known to few tourists.
We continue along the crater row to Gunnuhver, an active geothermal area with steam vents and bubbling mud pools. The landscape sizzles and steams – a living display of nature’s power.
The journey continues toward the sea and the dramatic rock formations at Valahnúkar, where waves often crash against the troll-like lava cliffs. You'll also have views of Eldey Island and Iceland’s oldest lighthouse.
We finish with a thrilling ATV sprint through a black lava landscape – an area featured in Game of Thrones. Then we arrive at Sandvík, the black sand beach where Clint Eastwood filmed scenes for the Oscar-winning film 'Flags of Our Fathers'. A popular spot for surfers – and perfect for photos!
A stop between continents
Suddenly, you’ll find yourself in a rift – right between the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates. Here we take a break with hot cocoa and Icelandic kleina pastries.
