Fascinated by lava, volcanoes, and geology? Want to see glowing lava up close in a safe environment? Planning a trip through Iceland – the land of fire and ice? Then don’t miss the LAVA SHOW in Vík – the world’s first and only live lava performance and one of Iceland’s most unique experiences!
A spectacular and unforgettable experience
This one-of-a-kind lava show recreates a mini volcanic eruption by melting real lava from the 1918 Katla eruption and pouring it into a showroom full of guests. The moment the molten lava fills the room, you’ll feel the incredible heat. Watching, hearing, smelling, and feeling the glowing lava is a truly immersive experience you won’t find anywhere else.
Education, entertainment, and raw natural power up close
The show starts with a short welcome and an informative video about Icelandic volcanoes – especially nearby Katla – and how eruptions have shaped local life. You’ll hear a personal story and even learn about the evacuation plan in case Katla erupts during the show.
The host literally plays with lava!
As the lava flows into the room, the host uses a metal rod to manipulate it, creating Pele’s hair, lava tunnels, and small caves – all while sharing fascinating facts. It’s up-close, hands-on, educational, and completely entertaining – unlike anything you’ve seen before. After the show, you’ll see Iceland’s natural wonders with a whole new perspective.
Practical information:
Please arrive at least 10 minutes before the show to find your seat and optionally visit the gift shop.
Once the lava enters, the room gets hot – feel free to remove a layer of clothing before the show starts.
The show is safe, but pregnant guests, those with infants, or anyone with heart conditions are advised to sit in the second row or near the exit.
Safety goggles must be worn throughout the entire show, especially while the lava cools and hardens.
