This is the first volcanic eruption on Reykjanes peninsula in 800 years. The eruption started 19th of March 2021 and is an impressive lava eruption, peaceful and beautiful. Reykjanes peninsula is a very volcanic active area and the eruption in Geldingadalir has been expected for a long time as it has had many earthquakes lately, and that is often the start of a volcano eruption. This is an extremely interesting eruption to view and has attracted tourist, photographs, and geologists from all over the world.
The tour starts off with a guided hike to the eruption site in Geldingadalur. The driver and the guide will bring the group to the start of the hiking route, wherefrom we will hike as a group towards the eruption site. This hike is approximately 1.5-2 hours each way. Please notice that the area around the eruption is constantly changing due to the eruption. This can impact the hiking route and therefore the estimated time for the hike.
After this thrilling hike, we end the day in the world-famous Blue Lagoon. Relax your body in the, beautiful milk-blue, warm seawater and enjoy the unique terrain around the lagoon. The comfort package includes admittance to the Blue Lagoon, silica mudmask, towel and one drink at the in-water bar.
This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to witness the raw and intense powers of nature, as lava pours out of the surface of the earth.

Important information:
We follow strong safety procedures, and we will cancel the tour if the conditions on the eruption site are not suitable.
- The hiking it´s self is around 1,5-2hrs each way
- The level of difficulty is moderate
- The walking distance each way is 7 km (4,4mi)
- Decent is about 300 m (984ft)
- We will stop for about 2hrs at the eruption site
- Please remember to bring warm outdoor cloths and good hiking shoes
- Bring food and drinks
- Please be aware that the weather in Iceland can change in a split second, so also bring warm cloths even if the sky is sunny.
- This tour can take longer time than estimated
- Please stay close to both your guide and your fellow travelers the whole time. Fatigue and hypothermia can come quickly.
- Stick to hills and ridges. Avoid valleys and dells in the landscape (due to gas pollution).
- There is a risk of rock fall. Beware of steep slopes.
- The telephone connection in the area may be bad and it can therefore be difficult to call for help if needed, so stay close to the guide and fellow travelers.
- The eruption sites can change, and new eruption cracks may open on short notice
- Gas pollution is strongest close to the area and can lurk in valleys and dells where it is particularly dangerous.
- Gas pollution can change on short notice if the eruption suddenly increases, and it is dangerous to be near the eruption sites without measuring instruments. (The guide has measuring instruments).
